{"id":144,"date":"2019-10-18T13:25:02","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T11:25:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/?page_id=144"},"modified":"2023-05-03T12:47:35","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T10:47:35","slug":"femtomagnetism","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/research\/femtomagnetism\/","title":{"rendered":"Femtomagnetism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Light-induced ultrafast magnetization dynamics in YIG:Co films<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We report on large-amplitude magnetization precession in a ferrimagnetic cobalt-substituted yttrium iron garnet (YIG:Co) thin film through excitation by linearly polarized 100 fs laser pulses. The deviation of the magnetization from its initial equilibrium position achieved via a photoinduced magnetic anisotropy (PMA) effect was as high as 20deg. we observed significant changes (up to 2 GHz, that is a 50% change from the initial value) of the precession frequency as a function of light polarization, suggesting the feasibility of subpicosecond frequency modulation [1].&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-145\" src=\"http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/pp-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/pp-1.jpg 400w, http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/pp-1-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To study the effect of intense femtosecon laser pulses on garnet material, we carried out time-resolved measurements at room temperature using a magneto-optical pump-probe setup in Faraday configuration.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-146\" src=\"http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/dynamics-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/dynamics-1.jpg 600w, http:\/\/labfiz.uwb.edu.pl\/lab\/and\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/dynamics-1-300x142.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pronounced light-induced oscillations are observed with an amplitude and frequency dependent on the applied field. The experimental observations and model allow us to conclude that femtosecond optical excitation of YIG:Co gives rise to a strong nonthermal PMA, which is most noticeable at low applied fields [2]. For example, at 0.4 kG, we obtained a deviation angle for the magnetization of 20<sup>o<\/sup> at a pump intensity of 60 mJ\/cm<sup>2<\/sup>.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>F. Atoneche, A.M.
